Meet Josh Tallo

My interest in filmmaking began with editing. When I first started out in this business, digital editing had only just become easily accessible. It didn’t matter what camera you had, so long as you had a means to edit the images together. Even if those images did come from a VHS camcorder. As a result of editing various projects over the years, I have become proficient in the skill.  It wasn’t until college that I had the chance to use film cameras, where I actually got to cut and paste real 16mm film. I was hooked! I instantly turned into a gear head, and fell in love with all kinds of cameras and how they worked. I graduated from Columbia College Chicago in 2005 with a concentration in cinematography.

At my core I am a  visual storyteller. I love images and I love light. Together, they have the power to evoke emotional connections and materialize visions that would otherwise be left to the imagination. Working as freelance Director of Photography and camera operator over the past 15 years,  I've worked on everything from reality TV to Documentary and Narrative Films. I’ve had the pleasure to work for clients such as Discovery, Travel Channel, Nike, ABC, TLC, Oprah, CNN, The Big10 Network, ESPN, Nat Geo, The Weather Channel, Dyson, American Girl, Sears, K-Mart, Kenmore, United Airlines and many others.

My work has taken me from the beaches of Hawaii to the townships of South Africa. I’ve met incredible people throughout my travels and have developed remarkable relationships with fellow cinematographers, visual FX artists, sound engineers and musicians from all across the country. I am constantly improving and critiquing my work. This business is ever evolving, so I’m eager to learn new techniques and skills. I’m always up for new challenges and opportunities and I'm excited to be directing projects these days as well. My passion for imagery and lighting, however, continues to be the basis for everything I create.
